How to repair and update your PC Registry

General

If your PC is performing badly or if you are getting blue screens or actual system lockups and you’re thinking of getting a new computer, consider this.   Your problem may lie in the System Registry file on your PC. If your system registry is faulty, with erroneous or duplicate data this can be your problem. This can slow you down or lock you up.

Your System Registry is the database of all the settings, parameters, codes and settings that Windows uses to run your applications.  It contains, for example, the name of the launch file, its address or folder, and any parameters that this application uses during its execution.  If there are any data corruptions with these values – called Keys, or if it’s damaged or duplicated, this can cause a slowing process while Windows verifies which set of data is correct or newer.

As with many Microsoft programs, it was not originally intended to perform the all-inclusive tasks that it now performs, nor was it created with appropriate levels of security and self-maintenance. Again, to do an adequate job to fix registry you will need the necessary quality registry software.

Microsoft doesn’t give you a maintenance capability for the system registry.    Therefore, over time this file will likely contain many broken links or corrupt keys.  It is up to you, the user, to do a registry fix on your own system, or use a registry software program to do it.  If you’re a techie you can get the instructions online – in fact you probably wouldn’t be reading this article.   Since most people are not technical, a windows cleaner software utility is the next best alternative – possibly even a better one.

First, get a registry backup utility and back up your registry.   Then get a quality registry repair software program. You should avoid cheap or freeware products because they are not trustworthy.

When the registry scan is complete and assuming that you’ve verified that there are errors, you are ready to proceed.  Execute the Update function – also sometimes called the Clean Registry Update – and the utility will delete, update and reorganize your System Registry.  Then you can finish by running the backup and storing safely your registry software package. Finally, run the Backup step and save a copy of your registry software in a safe place.
