PC Security

One of the most difficult decisions any new comer will need to make is which web hosting platform would he or she wants their server to be on. The two most commonly used choices are the Linux web server and the Windows web server.

Control panel and FTP commands – Linux and Windows servers provide support to these equally well, but some of the FTP command have slight variations in each operating system as the FTP programs are often designed with either Windows or Linux in mind. In running a few of the FTP commands on your computer server, this is why you will sometimes receive error messages.

Support – Linux can be limited in support for some technology which can sometimes make it more expensive in comparison to Windows. Linux is running on much specific technologies as compared to Windows which is much more generic.

- Reliability and security, Linux is better in regards to security, because Linux is not so widely used as Windows, and Windows is the main OS used on home PC’s, there are more viruses and malware that targets Windows. Linux Operating System is much less likely to be hacked successfully since the hackers know all too well that its defenses are better, while Windows Operating Systems are much more likely to be successfully hacked as the miscreants are on the lookout for the common flaws in these heavily used systems.

-Performance- Linux is frequently thought to be a better performing system most likely due to the fact that it is packaged efficiently. Linux plans are more specifically designed for their target customers. As opposed to these specific designs, Windows instead offers a more general package to all of their customers.

-Conversion- this is an area that should be heavily considered when thinking about what operating system may offer the most for you because you will pretty easily be able to convert your system from Linux to Windows if you decide to go with the former initially but change your mind. However, if you have started out with Windows you will have a series of immense difficulties in store for you if you try and change to Linux.
