A number of reasons a computer freezes up range from a malicious virus invading the system to the computer being over loaded with programs and windows running all at once.
If you are running a lot of programs at once while using numerous browsers all at once, the computer may need more memory than it has to process all these programs. If you do not have enough memory to run these at the same time, your computer will run very slow and often times freeze up.
People who regularly use many programs simultaneously should make sure their system has at least 2GB of memory available. If just using one or two programs, one gigabyte of memory should be sufficient.
Many websites, especially those that are graphics intensive will also cause your computer to run slow or freeze, even with one gigabyte of memory installed.
Emails and websites contain more graphics than ever before, and they need a lot of memory to work right. For your computer to run smooth and without stalls, the computer needs more memory at its disposal to process everything. However, things like word processing software usually does not take a lot of memory.
On the other hand, those who watch movies frequently will need to make sure that they have plenty of memory on board, otherwise the computer will not playback the video that well.
Many times, computers will freeze up because there is not enough memory to go around and support all the programs running. However, there are times when you will access a website that is not fast, and that will slow your computer down too.
Not all websites are created equal, and some have not been updated lately. When you hit one of these sites, your computer may freeze. Another problem stems from issues when too many people try and access a site at the same time, which will cause the system to overload.
