PC Security

Nowadays we tend to use our computers for so many parts of our lives, we use it for communicating, shopping, online banking, uploading videos and photographs and much more. The more things we do, the more we are leaving ourselves open to attackers or hackers.

Some hackers may be looking to get your personal information in order to make a profit off your identity, and others may want to use your computer to attack other victims. Fortunately, there are many low costing measures you can take to have computer system security.

1. Top of the list is going to be keeping backups of all the information you have on your computer and keep it safe, away from your computer.

2. Keep all your system’s software up to date and make sure to download all available updates once they become available.

3. Make sure that your computer has a good firewall installation; without this you are susceptible to being attacked from viruses, adware, malware, trojans, and worms. You have the option of either going with a firewall that software or hardware based.

4. Set yoru browser settings and email setting to high security level. Attackers often times use Javascript and Active-X to place risky material on your machine. Cookies, even though most times harmless, are set up to build a profile on you as they track each and ever movement. Keep your security levels on high.

5. Do automatic download updates from your anti-virus or your spyware protection software so you will always have the latest software on your system.

6. When scanning and reading your email messages, do not open up any attachments unless it is ran through your system’s computer protection software.

7. The same goes for running programs if you don’t know the origins. The programs sometimes contain funny jokes or stories, so don’t be tempted to send it to your friends.

8. After each use of your computer, make sure to disconnect it from the Internet so you can guarantee you will not be attacked.

Computer system security needs to become a habit, and something that you do not have to think about, but that you do automatically.
